Computer Cleaning
Why should i clean my computer?
And what needs to be cleaned?
Your computer components all require electricity in order to function. Taking apart any of these may result in Electrocution or even more fatal, It can kill you. Please do not attempt to deconstruct any part of your Computer Tower, Keyboard or monitor without adequate training or supervision from a professional. Also do not spray any liquids onto your computer system, Use the proper tools and be safe.
* WARNING *
The office can be a disgusting, germ infested environment - but if you regularly keep your IT equipment clean, you'll minimise the risk to you, your staff and your colleagues.
Even at home the same things can play a part in the hygene or smooth running of your computer system.
Cleaning your computer is not just wiping it with a damp cloth or polish. You have to go further and look at the physical cleaning of the dirt, dust grime and germs that have built up on your PC!
Take a look at the back of your computer. Can you see the air intake? Behind that, a fan starts to rotate the minute you power up your machine, taking in cool air to keep the temperature on your processor down. Along with that cool air, dust and particles get sucked into your machine. These rest on vital components of your PC - motherboard, RAM, graphics card, printer card, network card, etc, and build up layers of dirt on them. They also build up around the fan, slowing it down. One day, that fan will stop... your processor will overheat... your work will be lost... Costing you untold £££'s to rectify... Or maybe even costing you a new machine.
Cleaning the Monitor.....
Have you ever sat in front of a computer and there are marks on the screen or smudged finger prints? If so then you can understand why your monitor needs to be cleaned. These marks and smudges can cause eye strain and lead to further eye problems later in life.
Cleaning the Mouse.....
Your computer mouse has over 1500 germs per square inch on it's surface - compared to the 47 germs per square inch on a toilet seat. Your hand is constantly in contact with the mouse - so if you've been scratching your head, wiping your nose, or picking that scab, the germs and skin debris on your hand will pass on to your mouse. even if you have been to the toilet and washed your hands, you still carry germs.
Cleaning the Keyboard.....
We probably spend the majority of the day in front of the computer, with our hands on the keyboard. We cough, sneeze and eat right over our keyboard, meaning that germs and food will be deposited there. Everything you touch with your hands can then be transfered to your keyboard. The keyboard has over 3000 germs per square inch on it - for a normal sized keyboard, that's over 96000 germs in total, which can include e.coli, MRSA, c.dif and salmonella. and thats on the keys itself or in the gaps between the buttons.
Cleaning the Tower....
The desktop unit or tower is the heart of your computer system, without this you dont have a pc. Inside here, it gets really hot, so cooling fans suck in cool air to keep the temperature down. But with the cool air, they also suck in dust and paper particles, pet hairs and dead skin cells from the outside environment. These build up on the inside and slow down the fans, making it less effective. Dirt can build up around the heat sync's. This subsequently builds up the heat inside the pc, making the machine sluggish, and could also cause major components to malfunction.
